Safety, accessibility of pier improved in Concord Park
The Knox County Engineering & Public Works Department began reconfiguring the access points at the Concord Park Fishing Pier last week in an effort to improve safety and accessibility, according to a Knox County press release.
The park, which also includes a canoe/kayak launch, is located at 11550 South Northshore Drive.
Plans call for widening the current dock roadway inside the park and creating new turnaround areas to make it easier for visitors to come and go.
The main entrance/exit will remain open, but officials permanently closed the other exit near the curve due to its poor line of sight Thursday, Oct. 14, the release stated.
The upgrades are just the latest that have taken place at Concord Park and The Cove at Concord Park in recent months, and are among Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs’ initiatives of “jobs, education and recreation,” said Mike Donila, communications director for Knox County.
Work should be finished by Thanksgiving.
