Signs say it all

Led by third-place finisher Kaden Keller (15:33.34) and three other Hardin Valley Academy senior runners in the top 20, Bryan Brown’s cross country Hawks returned to Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville and became back-to-back Class AAA boys state champions Thursday afternoon, Nov. 4.

This marked the 10th overall state crown for a Brown-coached HVA team in cross country, outdoor track and field or indoor track and field. Adding a 14th-place finish by Nathan Hillis (16:04.37) and 15th from Isaac Legault (16:04.82) to earn All-state honors, plus Asa Mazow’s 18th--place finish (16:17.64), and the Hawks outdistanced meet runner-up Siegel 71-99. “We had a good day. I was very pleased with how we went out and did what was expected of us with a big target on our back,” Brown said. “It wasn’t as easy as it may have seemed.” His Lady Hawks were fifth in state, led by region champ Maddie Archdale’s 10th-place All-state finish (19:00.60).
