New Year's at Noon
Just over 100 adults and children gathered to celebrate an early New Year’s, complements of Town of Farragut, which hosted its inaugural New Year’s at Noon in Farragut Community Center, 239 Jamestowne Blvd., Friday, Dec. 31.
They enjoyed taking photos, games, Hula Hoops and other activities in the gymnasium; a movie, popcorn and other refreshments in the lobby and assembly room; and craft-making in yet another room.
As the time came closer, children piled under the center of the gym, under a net of about 500 balloons, and watched the balloons above during the countdown to noon. They squealed as the balloons descended on them, blew their noisemakers and ran around the balloons.
“We just moved here,” said Judy Boehm, who along with her husband, Rick Boehm, brought their granddaughters, Layla McDill and Addy Boehm.
“We think its is great,” she added. “Since we can’t stay up until midnight, we’re glad to do it all at noon.”
“It was really fun to host a New Year’s party for families,” Lauren Cox, Farragut Parks and Athletics coordinator, said. “The balloon drop was something we’d never done before, and the kids really enjoyed it.
“One thing I noticed is that we’ve had enough events at the Community Center that kids really know us now,” Cox added. “They know our names and recognize that we have fun events. That’s a big accomplishment, given all the challenges that came with COVID.”
She credited the Parks & Recreation staff, including Allie Koepfer, for the event’s success.
