‘Chair-ish Moment’ at FHS accepted
Town leadership and area business owners have stepped up to help “Chair-ish the Moment” at Farragut High School.
Mayor Ron Williams confirmed last week he has purchased a number of replacement auditorium chairs as part of an effort — begun last year by the Class of 2021 — to replace seating in the Vickie B. Wells’ Auditorium, which is more than 40 years old.
The campaign is tagged “Chair-ish the Moment,” and each replacement chair is $199, which can be personalized.
“As you know, (as a Town), we donate money every year (to our schools) and we have been doing volunteer school projects at every Intro to Farragut class,” Williams said. “I encouraged everyone on the library project (FHS library facelift) as well as speaking at the kickoff for the chair campaign this past December.
“I personally purchased 10 chairs and also challenged some of our local business leaders to step up and buy some for their family members,” he added.
Meeting that challenge so far has been area businessmen developers and FHS graduates Doug Horne and Budd Cullom. Horne, owner of Republic Newpapers, Inc., parent company of farragutpress, said he committed to purchasing five seats. Cullom has bought two.
About 800 replacement seats are needed for the ground-level portion of the auditorium.
