Young in ’22, FMS swim- dive again ‘City Meet’ top 2
“We have finished first or second as a team at ‘City Meet’ since 2018,” fifth-year head coach Corey Olson said about his Aqua Admirals’ runner-up finish to West Valley in Knox-area Interscholastic Swim League Meet in Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center at UT, which finished Sunday, Jan. 23.
“We had 50 kids compete: 49 swimmers and one diver. Our diver, Olivia Kohl, ... finished first overall and was the only middle schooler at the meet who completed all eight required dives,” Olson added.
First-place swimming finishes included the 200-yard freestyle mixed relay foursome of Annagail Herzog, Stephen Xiao, Ella Roettger and Hisato Kurosaki. “Ella Roettger and Annagail Herzog were a dynamite duo,” the coach said. “Ella won the 200-free, with teammate Annagail finishing in second right behind her. They finished within one second of each other and two seconds ahead of the rest of the heat. “
In the 100-free “Annagail won, with Ella finishing second,” Olson said, “Going into the meet they were seeded second and fourth.”
Having “15 top-eight finishes and 25 top-16 finishes,” the coach added, “We have a very young team this year, and without being able to have a season last year due to COVID-19” to gain experience. “I am incredibly proud of our finish this year. Our regular season dual meet record is 3-1, losing only to West Valley. ... We also competed in the Ray Bussard Invitational.
“I have my sights set on that City Meet win next year. ...”
