Last home game means 1st HVA girls 4-4A victory
HARDIN VALLEY — Pushing back Maryville second-half runs after leading 26-17 at the break, Hardin Valley Academy’s girls won their first District 4-4A game of the season — doing so on Senior Night at HVA.
“It’s really nice to win on Senior Night for these seniors,” Lady Hawks head coach Jennifer Galloway said in reference to seniors Avery Laugherty and Faith Johnson, who helped the Lady Hawks win 49-40. “… Our two seniors have done a phenomenal job of helping us to keep being bought in.
“And we have a lot of underclassmen who are not only gym rats, they know the game,” she added.
“I love the team, and just winning on Senior Night is like the best feeling ever,” said Laugherty, who scored 15 points, three behind sophomore Gracie Waite’s team-leading 18.
“It feels great. It’s something we’ve worked hard for, and I’m glad it happened on Senior Night,” Johnson said. “I’m proud of my team.”
The win also gave HVA an 11-10 overall record.
“This team has been, I feel like, pretty resilient this whole season,” Galloway said. “Each day in practice, no matter what we did the game before, they’ve been committed to getting a little bit better.”
