CUMC Purse Auction benefits former prisoners

Spring is only a few weeks away, and to mark the occasion United Methodist Women of Concord United Methodist Church are hosting a Tea and Purse Auction to benefit a ministry assisting women recently paroled from prison.

The event is free to attend and will be held beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5, in the church’s gymnasium, 11020 Roane Drive.

“Come with your hat, gloves and purse,” Concord UMW president Becky Bishop said. “The only admission to the tea will be to bring a friend.

“We will be serving tea, of course, along with yummy treats, and we will have a live auction during the tea, (consisting of) purses donated by the wonderful ladies in the church.”

More than 30 brand name purses have been donated so far, including Vera Bradley, Ema Fox, Sigrid OlsenKipling, Coach, Calvin Klein, Kate Spade, Aigner, Dooney & Bourke and Michael Kors.

Those wishing to attend are asked to sign up via signupgenius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E054BA8AC2FA4FE3-spring1.

It will be the second time the church has hosted the event.

All proceeds will benefit Focus Ministries, a women’s prison transition program.
