Murphey’s unbeaten 185 crown a state title repeat
FHS’s Thibeault 3rd at 165; Catholic’s Hosford 4th at 138
WILLIAMSON COUNTY — For a second straight year, Ella Murphey of Hardin Valley Academy is a state champion.
The sophomore wrestler capped a dominant, and perfect, 2021-22 season by beating a familiar opponent, pinning Gibbs junior Trinity Lynn at 2:34 in the 185-pound class state finals Saturday, Feb. 26 — having also pinned Lynn at Alcoa High School in the region finals eight days earlier.
While Murphey finished unbeaten this season, Lynn’s only two losses this season (14-2) came against the HVA sophomore.
Meanwhile, two other Farragut-area girls finished in the top four.
Elaina Thibeault, Farragut Lady Admirals senior, took third in the 165-pound class with a final 19-7 record, while junior Lilly Hosford of Knoxville Catholic ended with a 31-9 mark after claiming fourth at 138.
