‘Ineligible’ FHS boys soccer player ‘inadvertently’ sees ’21 action, school out $2,700-plus
All playoff wins forfeited, 11 total, last season
Forced to pay Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association more than $2,700, combining forfeited gate receipts with a $250 fine, Farragut High School boys soccer coaches “inadvertently played an ineligible player for 11 games” last spring.
Announced by principal Dr. John Bartlett Monday, Feb. 28, this participation included all FHS playoff games for a team that reached the TSSAA state tournament. “Because of that, all 11 of those games that he played in are going to be forfeited and we’re paying a fine to the TSSAA ... and returning the proceeds from the district, region and state (playoff) games.
“I think the total is going to be north of $2,700,” he added.
“This was brought to light about three weeks ago. ... The coach (Bradley Culbreth) caught a mistake and he brought it to myself and coach (Donald) Dodgen.”
“When this year’s roster was being looked at for eligible players, we realized there was a discrepancy on eligibility,” said Culbreth, the team’s head coach. “We self-reported it and turned it in to TSSAA for clarification.”
“It’s an honest mistake,” said Dodgen, athletic director. “We’re going to work to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
