First Bluegrass on Lawn at Mayor McGill Plaza

The soothing sounds of homegrown bluegrass music will wash over Farragut from 3 to 6 p.m., Saturday, March 26, at Mayor Ralph McGill Plaza.

Visit Farragut is partnering with East Tennessee Bluegrass Association to provide Bluegrass on the Lawn, an inaugural event organizers are hoping will become a regular offering.

“The ETNBA has been working with Visit Knoxville and Ijams (Nature Center) on live music events — Visit Knoxville hosts them once a month — and they had been wanting to come out west for some time,” Town of Farragut Tourism coordinator Karen Tindal said. “They first reached out to Shandy (Dixon of the Lawnchair Series), and she suggested they talk to us.”

”The Farragut community really loves live music, and I’m happy to be able to provide another opportunity for local performers to showcase their talents.”

“Our mission is to promote and preserve traditional bluegrass music and build community, and we already have a great community of people that love to play and perform together,” ENTBA president Evie Andrus said.

“In looking to come west ...We will have a time from 3 to 4 p.m. for beginners, then a regular jam from 4 to 6 p.m., and we want people to come out and join in, or listen and just hang out.”

Anyone wishing to “jam” with the scheduled musicians may bring acoustic guitars, fiddles, mandolins, basses or dobroes to play.

Beyond the event itself, utilizing Farragut’s historic Campbell Station Inn and the surrounding McGill Plaza also is a focus.

“We would like to see more events at the Plaza, and it seemed like a good fit for us and for that space,” Tindal said.

The event will be weather dependent, and any updates will be provided via VisitFarragut.org and via social media.
