Early FHS track-field test vs. 31

Hosting East Tennessee Track & Field Jamboree Saturday, March 5, at Bill Parker Track, Farragut was among 32 schools competing — the largest ever in this event’s history.

“With two of our top girls, sophomore Parker Willis and senior Lexi Foley, sitting out the first two meets while they will be competing at the indoor New Balance Nationals in the 800(-meters), we were able to focus on some others,” FHS head coach Chris Allison said.

Among the younger ones, “Sophomore Sara Lynn, in her first year of track, had a very impressive indoor season and continued it right into the outdoor season in the 400,” the coach added about her third-place finish (1:02.44). Freshman Anna Pressly placed sixth (1:03).

“That will help us when we put the 4-(by)-4 squad together. We have a freshman pole vaulter, Katie Edmunds, that jumped 8 feet in her first meet, and that will help us down the stretch and in future years.”

Elsewhere, “Making great progress that will help us is senior Keara Tibbs in the throws area,” Allison said. “We have two All-state pole vault girls, Laura Speth and Samantha Harvey, who will continue to make an impact. We also have around six to eight girls that we will be relying on when we start piecing together a 4 x 800 squad and a few other events.”

As for Farragut’s depth, “Unlike most programs that rely on just having a few athletes that they stack events on, we have a handful that we can spread them around to keep them fresh,” the coach said. “It’s just figuring out where we need to place them to help us.”
