Candidate deadlines, primary early voting nearing in Town, Knox

Deadlines are approaching for candidates wishing to run for office in Town of Farragut. Prospective candidates have until noon Thursday, April 7, to return their petitions to Knox County Election Commission offices located in the Knox County Courthouse, 300 Main St. Suite 229 in downtown Knoxville, or to the West office, 109 Lovell Heights Road.

One North Ward and one South Ward office is up for election, as is the office of Mayor.

As of Monday, March 21, incumbent Mayor Ron Williams and South Ward (Ward 2) resident Sean Murphy have picked up petitions for mayor. Williams returned his petition March 7.

Murphy also picked up a petition to run for South Ward Alderman, as has Marty Layman, who serves on the Town Visual Resources Review Board.

Incumbent North Ward Alderman (Ward 1) Scott Meyer has picked up a petition to run, as has Village Green resident Steve Cameron.

Final deadline to withdraw as a candidate is Thursday, April 14. Farragut’s General Election will be held Thursday, Aug. 4, in conjunction with Knox County’s general election and the federal and state primary election.

Early Voting

Knox County’s Republican and Democratic primary election is Tuesday, May 3. Early voting is Wednesday, April 13, through April 28. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays.

Early voting sites include Farragut Town Hall, 11408 Municipal Center Drive, and Downtown West, 1645 Downtown West Blvd., Unit 40.
