Call to get involved in the election process

Our Town of Farragut will elect the Mayor, a North Ward Aldermen and a South Ward Alderman this Aug. 4. Many registered voters in Farragut are unaware of this.

The farragutpress had a story on Jan. 13. I believe this was the only story this year so far. To date there is no mention of the election on the Farragut town website. It isn’t even on the town calendar.

I question this and suggest the town has a responsibility to do better.

The last four Farragut Aldermen races had no opponents. This is not acceptable. As a town we can and must do better.

For residents interested in running for office, you can pick up a candidate petition to run at the Lovell Heights office of Knox County Election Commission. It is in the old Frank Strang Senior Center building at 109 Lovell Heights Road.

You have until April 7 to return the petition with the signatures of at least 25 registered Farragut voters. The phone number for the Election Commission is 865-215-2480.

As of Monday, March 21, only one candidate has returned their candidate petition to the Election Commission. That candidate is Ron Williams, who is seeking re-election as Mayor.
