Champs start fast

After winning a state championship last year, Farragut High School softball picked right up where it left off.

The Lady Ads went 6-1 to open the season at East Tennessee Classic Thursday-Saturday, March 17-19, at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City.

“Definitely pleased,” head coach Nick Green said. “Pitching was outstanding. Hitting really got going.”

Farragut opened the 18-team tourney Thursday with a 2-1 win over state power Daniel Boone. Senior ace Avery Flatford struck out 15 while giving up three hits in six innings. Sarah Livingston and Lauren Brakovec each hit home runs.

In a 5-3 win over Science Hill later that day, Emma MacTavish threw a five-hitter over eight innings (one earned run). Brakovec hit a pair of two-run homers, while Hailey Nichols went 3-for-4 plate-wise.

The Lady Ads’ first game Friday was an 11-2 thrashing of Unicoi County. Emily Musco’s two hits were both home runs. Autumn Caywood had a double and home run.

Also Friday, Farragut scored 11 in its only inning (forfeit), beating Hancock County 11-1.

The Lady Admirals won 6-2 over Dobyns-Bennett Saturday. MacTavish struck out six while giving up four hits (five innings). Brakovec went 3-3. Laney Shrader homered.
