Tough 2-2 slate for Ads in Fla.

Farragut High School’s Matt Buckner knew his baseball team faced a formidable 2022 schedule, both in and out of the region.

During spring break, FHS began the gauntlet with a 2-2 record at a tourney in Ft. Lauderdale versus Florida teams.

On Monday, March 14, Farragut opened with a 2-1 extra-inning win over West Broward, Pembroke Pines. Pitchers Jaxson Pease and Stratton Scott combined to give up six hits.

Jett Johnston and Jake Merrick each had two hits. Merrick drove in the winning run.

“We’re playing some of the best competition in the country,” coach Buckner said. “I think overall we probably improved throughout the week.”

On Tuesday the Ads lost 5-3 to nationally ranked J.P. Taravella. One of Jack Alley’s two hits was a solo home run. Brennon Seigler and Eli Evans added RBI singles for the Admirals, while Lukas Buckner had a single.

On Wednesday, the Admirals’ schedule difficulty was front-and-center as they were handed a 10-0 loss by national power Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The Eagles finished last year as the top-ranked team in the nation.

On Thursday, Farragut wrapped things up with a 10-2 win over Flanagan High.

Winning pitcher Braylon Hall gave up three hits with three strikeouts and no runs in five innings. Buckner, Seigler, Johnston, Merrick, Mark Underwood and Landis Davila each had multiple hits.

We’re looking forward to getting back here and getting rolling.
