Another strong week for FHS softball

With a 7-0-1 record last week, Farragut High School’s softball team was nothing short

of dominant.

The Lady Admirals outscored their opponents 74-9, displaying both fierce hitting and shutdown pitching. FHS is now 13-1-1.

The Lady Admirals opened the week on Tuesday, March 22, with a 12-2 defeat of Maryville. Ace Avery Flatford got the win, giving up no hits in three innings with five strikeouts.

Laurent Brakovec, Sarah Livingston and Emily Musco combined to go eight for 11 and drive in nine runs. Brakovec hit two home runs.

“We started slow but then kept adding more and more numbers,” head coach Nick Green said.

Another blowout came Thursday, March 24, with 11-1 against Bearden. Flatford again got the win, throwing a complete game two-hitter with six strikeouts. Brakovec went 3 for 4, with two doubles and three RBI. Musco and Ava Guzowksi each went 2 for 3.

“Pretty intense game,” Green said. “We took care of business.”

Friday, March 25, Farragut traveled to Cookeville for the Macon County tournament, where 14 teams participated.

Their first game was an 11-0 thrashing of Piqua High School from Ohio. Flatford’s complete-game shutout included 11 strikeouts and two hits yielded.

Livingston went 3 for 3, with a double, triple and two RBI. Hailey Nichols hit a two-run home run, and Brakovec and Guzkowski each went 2 for 3 and combined for three RBI.

FHS’s second game on Friday ended in a 3-3 tie against Franklin County High School. The game went four innings because of time allotment.

The Lady Admirals had a game-winning runner on third with no outs in the fourth but couldn’t bring her in.

Green thought his team would have won had the game been played in full.

“I think if we play a full game we come out on top,” he said.

The first of four Saturday, March 26, games was a 4-1 win over Upperman High School. Flatford gave up one hit while striking out 13 in five complete-game innings.

Brakovec hit a two-run home run for Farragut; Laney Shrader hit a solo shot.

“Motivation is sometimes a problem with teams we don’t know,” Green said. “If we’re playing a district or regional opponent we don’t have a problem.”

The Lady Admirals’ offensive outburst resumed for the final three games as they scored 11 in each. Against Portland High School, MacTavish threw a complete-game no-hitter in four innings.

Shrader hit a two-run home run for Farragut.

In the semi-final of the seven-team bracket, FHS destroyed Macon County, 11-0. Flatford threw yet another complete game, striking out nine while yielding only two hits and no walks.

Livingston, Musco and Vivan Boles combined for a home run, two doubles and five RBI.

The Lady Admirals took home the tournament title with an 11-2 win over Karns. MacTavish threw a four-inning complete game, giving up two hits.

Musco hit a three-run home run, and Guzowski had three RBI.

“We’re feeling very good,” Green said.

Farragut resumed play this Tuesday at Hardin Valley.
