Dermatology practice opened in area May 24
Salyards and husband, Andrew “Andy” Salyards, office manager, celebrated the opening of their practice with a ribbon cutting, hosted by Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday, May 24.
“I’m very lucky when we get to celebrate new businesses, especially their new space, which is gorgeous,” FWKCC president/CEO Julie Blaylock said.
Dr. Salyards treats everyone from 1-year-olds to senior citizens, providing dermatological, surgical and cosmetic treatments for such conditions as rashes, acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin cancer and surgical removals to cosmetic treatments, such as fillers and neurotoxins (Botox).
Her love for dermatology started in medical school at Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she graduated as a valedictorian of her class.
“We’re treating healthy people, for the most part, and we get to see the results and get to enjoy every visit with every patient,” Dr. Salyards said.
“Everyone’s typically happy when they leave,” she added.
As a dermatologist, “you’re curing cancer and you’re also helping small children — everybody of all ages — so it’s just, really, a well-rounded specialty. ...”
Moving to Knox County with four small sons, the Salyards family is making the practice a long-term investment.
Andy brings to the practice a hospitality background.
“So, we joined this together with medical and hospitality to make an overall good experience for every patient,” Dr. Salyards said.
“That was borne from going to doctor’s offices,” Andy said.
“Care is really that word that emphasizes so much that we do because it’s not about just running people through,” he added. “… we have to make sure everyone who comes through here is cared for, and part of that is investment in our community.”
