Only an exceptionally well-rounded student-athlete can claim the state’s Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year Award. It’s no wonder why Brinley Murphy, Bearden High School rising senior star forward, earned the 2021 honor as recently announced.

Her on-field talents, which helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to the 2021 Class AAA state championship last fall with a team-high 30 goals (69 career goals), include “having one of the top work ethics I’ve been around,” BHS head coach Ryan Radcliffe said. “She wants to stay after practice ... always asking questions and wanting to get better (despite) the talent she has. ... She’s big, she’s strong, she’s fast.”

But there’s much more to say about this University of South Carolina commitment. “They also look at grades, they look at extra-curricular ... what clubs you’re involved in, community service,” Radcliffe added. “It’s such a prestigious award that it speaks more about her as a person on top of being a great soccer player.”
