Linda’s Hallmark 38th proceeds to benefit Alzheimer’s TN

Linda Underwood of Linda’s Hallmark has been a business owner for almost four decades.

But some of her most important work has been accomplished during the last several years with an organization that impacted her personally.

Now an active board member with Alzheimer’s Tennessee, she became affiliated with the organization after the diagnosis of her late husband, Al.

“We had suspected Alzheimer’s, but the day they confirmed it in 2015, our first stop was at the Alzheimer’s Tennessee office,” Underwood recalled. “They were helpful to both of us, from the very beginning, and that began my volunteering with the organization.”

Although Al passed away four-and-a-half years ago, she remains devoted to Alzheimer’s Tennessee, not only as a board member but also as a sponsor and team captain for the annual Knoxville Walk to Make Alzheimer’s a Memory.

“As much as they’ve helped us, I can say they are even more helpful now, and are a very helpful resource for families and their caregivers,” she added.

Underwood also is committed financially and will be making a donation to Alzheimer’s Tennessee based on proceeds from her 38th Anniversary celebration Thursday, Aug. 25, as well as offering space to volunteers from the organization inside her Village Green shopping center store that day.

“Linda gives back to the community and our organization in so many ways,” said Mary Lynne Payne, Business Development & Public Relations specialist for Alzheimer’s Tennessee. “She has asked Alzheimer’s Tennessee to take part in this event as well, so we will be there to help families caring for a loved ones, sign up for a Silver Alert Kit and provide the Polaroid.

“The Silver Alert Awareness Program helps prepare caregivers in advance of a possible wandering situation. The kit is meant to guide them through obtaining vital information required by TBI in the case of a lost adult situation,” she added. “Linda has a gracious heart and I am delighted to be a part of her business celebration and this opportunity to help others.”

Additionally, the day will be filled with numerous promotions, specials and door prizes.

“It is a chance to say ‘Thank you’ to our customers for supporting us all these years,” Underwood said.

One special addition will be the all day presence of nationally-renowned silhouette artist Tim Arnold.

“We have never had him here before and are very excited about it,” she said. “Reservations for appointments are required.”

Customers may make reservations by calling 865-966-4438.

Underwood said one unannounced promotion will be revealed at 7 a.m., Monday, Aug. 25, on the business’ Facebook page.

She has operated Linda’s Hallmark at the Farragut location, taking over from Lissa’s Hallmark, in 2011, and previously operated branches in South Knoxville and Cedar Bluff.

Linda’s Hallmark began in Bearden’s Gallery Shopping Center in 1984, until rising rent costs led to its closure four years ago.

“I have been very happy here,” she said of the Village Green location.

“I have a great staff and very loyal employees. We have long had the slogan, ‘Not your average Hallmark store,’ offering home decor, ladies fashion, mens’ gifts and many other unique items.”

The store recently stocked an entire wall with fall decorations, and has already received many Hallmark Christmas keepsake ornaments, “which are always our biggest sellers,” Underwood said.
