Speth purchases Parker’s CPA biz
Speth bought out Bob Parker, who ran the business for more than 10 years.
“I feel great,” Parker said about the sale. “I think we’ve got a good firm; we’ve got a good staff, and I’m really pleased with Kerry. I think he’s a very good person and will carry forth the ethics of our firm and continue to do excellent work.”
“I’ve had a few different career stops throughout my career, and it always seems like it takes a while to feel at home, but this has felt like home since day one,” Speth said. “It feels normal; it feels natural. Bob has developed a really good team. I’m very excited about the future.
“It’s definitely a company that has a great foundation that’s built, and I’m looking forward to continuing to learn the staff, the clients and helping as much as I can,” he added. “We want to bring financial order from chaos.”
PBC&A is a full-service certified public accounting firm that provides bookkeeping and accounting services, monthly and quarterly write-ups, tax preparation, tax planning, business consulting, payroll services and more.
“What we really like to focus on is businesses that have a need for accounting work. They either need to subsidize the accounting staff they have on hand or if they want to work with a fully outsourced accounting firm, and we are their accounting department,” Speth said.
For individuals, he helps with complicated tax matters, whether it’s an IRS audit or helping their general tax return, or if they are starting a small business and need help.
Speth intends to keep the business’ name — at least for the next 12 to 18 months.
Speth’s quest to own a business started about 10 months ago when he saw an ad stating PBC&A was for sale.
Parker said he was selling the business because “I got to the point I wanted to make sure I had people taken care of — our clients and our staff — and make sure there weren’t any unexpected interruptions in what we do.
“And, with Kerry being the individual that he is, I’m just felt like it was the right time,” he added.
Likewise, the time was right for Speth.
“Bob’s a tremendous person. … The way he talked about the staff, the way he talked about the clients really gave me a lot of comfort that this was a very solid firm,” Speth said. “That just led me to continue to pursue it.”
However, Parker is not retiring from the business.
“Bob has some other interests, some other investments,” Speth said. “He’ll continue to do that. He’ll continue working with us in the firm as well, which I find very valuable. He’s got a wealth of knowledge, a lot of experience. I’m happy he’s going to stick around and help us continue to grow.”
Speth brings with him about 20 years of accounting experience, which started in his father’s firm in Huntsville, Alabama.
“I feel I gained valuable experience in the (chief financial officer) seat that I could bring to a CPA firm and continue to help businesses in those areas, while also working with individuals and smaller-sized businesses,” he said.
