In control, Lady Ads top G’ville

With relentless attacking pressure and solid defense, Farragut Lady Ads soccer beat perennial Class AA power Greeneville 2-0 at FIS Stadium Thursday, Aug. 25.

“All week we’ve been working on movement of the ball, making the ball do the work,” said Lady Ads skipper Kristen Lyons, whose team improved to 3-0-1 to begin this week.

“Movement off the ball and getting the ball quicker into the attacking third,” she added. “It resonated in the game.”

“We’ve definitely improved on that,” FHS senior midfielder Annabelle Ekern said.

Junior forward Caylee George’s sharp-angle goal from the right side, from about 25 yards out, was set up by a nice pass from the middle by junior midfielder Kennedy Renfro in the 16th minute.

Ekern made it 2-0 less than seven minutes into the second half with a laser-beam shot from about 35 yards out.

“She’s a very versatile player,” Lyons said of Ekern.

Junior midfielder Lauren Leslie “really controls the flow of the game,” the coach said.

Senior forward Jenna Thorley “is improving and developing and growing,” Lyons said.

As for younger standout players, “I think we played fast, and everything was connecting,” freshman center-fullback Rowan Unger said.

“It’s nice to have a freshman play so composed and also play very attacking-minded,” Lyons said of Unger while also praising “veteran defenders” Malena Maier, Parker Willis and Lexi Shimeall.
