McFee Dog Park ahead

Town of Farragut will take full advantage of a state grant to build its first dog park.

Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted unanimously to accept one of 15 statewide $25,000 Boyd Foundation Dog Park Dash grants.

Required to complete the dog park no later than August 2025, this park — with a budget ranging from about $140,000 to $400,000 — would be located in the northwest corner of McFee Park on roughly 1.5 acres.

It would include one area for larger dogs and one for smaller breeds/older dogs. It also would include an asphalt or concrete entryway and viewing area, benches, dog waste stations, a fountain, utilities, and information kiosk, with the “upper range estimate” of $400,000 including “maybe a restroom and possibly a pavilion,” Town Parks and Recreation director Sue Stuhl said.

A check presentation for the grant will be held beginning at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, at the future dog park location, Stuhl said.

“Great work Sue, and your team,” Alderman Drew Burnette said. “I know a lot of work went into applying for this grant. …”

“TML elects three officers, a president and two vice presidents, one representing each grand division of Tennessee,” the release further stated.

“Smoak was elected as one of eight district directors to represent his section of the state.”

By unanimous vote of the Board during the meeting, Farragut Vice Mayor Louise Povlin will remain in that capacity for the final two years of her term as a North Ward alderman.

Williams praised Chris Davis, Knox County Election Commission administrator, “For a very clean and efficient election” Thursday, Aug. 4. “A job well done.”
