‘Very pleased’ Waller praises HVA in volleyball sweep vs. Farragut
After a much-needed 3-2 home win against Anderson Co. Monday, Aug. 29, Farragut High School’s volleyball team came out flat the next evening versus rival Hardin Valley Academy.
The Lady Admirals put up little resistance against the Lady Hawks, losing in straight sets 25-12, 25-16 and 25-17 at FHS.
“Very pleased,” Lady Hawks head coach Joy Waller said. “We worked on a lot of things that we needed to in practice. We still have a lot to learn, but I feel like we’re starting to get there. I’m just happy they played the game they know how to play.”
Tinsley Brown led HVA in kills with 20. High for FHS was Mack Turner with six. Setter Annah Cate Hyatt had 31 assists for Hardin Valley while Tori McNair led Farragut with 14.
“I thought it was gonna be more difficult, but we had a lot of energy and that’s what let us win,” said Hyatt, whose team improved to 10-6 overall, 1-2 in District 4-AAA. “We had a lot of fun, which always helps us do better.”
“We just didn’t do our job; we just didn’t come ready to play tonight,” Lady Ads head coach Jo Madden said. “Energy was low, they weren’t excited about today for some reason. I don’t know if they came thinking they were gonna win and just keep going.”
“We weren’t working as a team. I just don’t think we showed up to play ...,” said Elsa Morrison, FHS sophomore outside hitter.
We just never really focused after the first (set).”
In all three sets, HVA went on scoring runs that turned close sets into sizable leads. They then held on and closed out each set.
