56-point first half in Dawgs rout at S-D

SOUTH KNOXVILLE — Fifty-six first-half points says it all about Bearden football, as the Dawgs (3-1) crushed South-Doyle (2-2) at SDHS 56-21 Friday evening, Sept. 9.

Specifically, senior Presean Brown’s tough tackle-breaking runs (9-yard and 1-yard touchdowns with 118 total yards rushing), sophomore quarterback Drew Parrott’s accuracy (19-of-23 passing for 228 yards and five TDs), senior receiver Ethan Ford’s scoring catches of 19 and nine yards, Sam Tummins’ 37-yard and 14-yard TD grabs — plus an interception — and junior Braden Perkins’ 30-yard touchdown catch.

It all adds up to 545 yards of total offense, 299 rushing.

“I feel like this week we finally got it going consistently,” Tummins, a senior, said about the Dawgs’ attack. “And I feel like Drew is getting more comfortable and the receivers are making more plays.”

“Our offensive line really stepped up tonight,” BHS head coach Josh Jones said. “It was a total team win. We had a lot of guys play well. We’re getting better every single week.”

Don’t forget senior linebacker Bryce Chesney’s fumble recovery and 56-yard TD return.

Defensively, “We had a few plays where we messed up, but overall I think we had a great game,” Chesney said.

Kicker Daniel Kinney, a sophomore, was a perfect 8-of-8 on conversion kicks.
