Town calendar
• Farragut Community Center will feature Israeli folk dancing classes October through December. Israeli folk dance is a community-building style of dance for girls and boys. It consists of circle and line dances. Most of the songs are in Hebrew and the choreography is used around the world.
Each class date will feature a time slot for each level of experience. There is a Junior class for participants ages 7-10, a Level 1 class for ages 10-18 and a Level 2 class for ages 10-18. Level 1 prerequisite is encouraged for the Level 2 class, but not required. Pre-registration is required for all classes.
The October session takes place from 2:45 to 5:30 p.m. each Thursday, Oct. 6-27. The four-week session is $40.
Juniors (ages 7-10) from 2:45-3:30 p.m.; Level 1 (ages 10-18) from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; Level 2 (ages 10-18) from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The November session takes place from 2:45 to 5:30 p.m., Thursdays, Nov. 3-17 (the same time frames for each age group as in October) . The three-week session is $30.
The December session takes place from 2:45 to 5:30 p.m., on Thursdays, Dec. 8-22 (the same time frames for each age group as in October and November). The three-week session is $30.
• Due to the popularity of pickleball and basketball, Farragut Community Center offers opportunities to enjoy these sports indoors during Open Gym hours.
Pickleball Open Gym takes place from noon to 2 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursdays. Cost is $4 per person, or two punches on a punch card, per session. No need to pre-register – just bring a paddle and a ball. Limited equipment is available for checkout but nets are provided. Games are played on the challenge-court system, played to 11 points and winning by two.
Basketball Open Gym takes place from 2 to 9 p.m., Mondays; from 4 to 5 p.m., Tuesdays; from 2 to 5 p.m., Wednesdays; from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursdays and from 2 to 4:45 p.m., Fridays. Cost is $4 per person per session or two punches on a punch card. There is a special Tuesday and Thursday rate of $2 per person, or one punch on a punch card. No need to pre-register – just bring a ball. Limited equipment is available for checkout. Users may experience wait times or be asked to restrict play to half court.
No Open Gym activities on Oct. 28, Nov. 24, Nov. 25, Dec. 9, Dec. 23, Dec. 26 and Dec. 30.
Everyone must sign up for a free membership the first time they use the Community Center; this is a simple process that requires just a few minutes.
