Costume contests, vendors galore, top bands as HarvestFest set Oct. 30
To be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, in Village Green shopping center parking lost in front of the former Stein Mart (11505 Kingston Pike), HarvestFest will feature “a great mix of vendors” totalling about 50, said Stephen Krempasky, SF-FBA executive director.
Variety of vendors
“And we’re getting more home-based businesses coming out than in the past, which is nice,” he added. “A lot of arts, crafts and jewelry,”
That’s in addition to various food and drink vendors. Krempasky said about half of all vendors, either home-based on brick-and-mortar, are from Farragut.
Moreover, “Come to this event prepared to Trick or Treat, as vendors will be passing out goodies (while supplies last),” an SF/FBA press release stated.
Costume Contest
Costume Contest winners, which includes several categories this year, will be announced beginning around 3:45 p.m.
Categories are Best Baby, Best Child Under 12, Best Pet, Best Group, Best Over 50 and culminates with Best of Festival.
A first-place winner will be crowned from each category.
Prizes include “a unique gift basket from Flour Power, gift cards from Admiral Nutrition and other local eateries including Water Into Wine bistro & lounge, a three-month executive membership from the Well & Free Company, multiple $100 gift cards from Cool Sports, a fall-themed gift basket from The Embroidery Boutique, two $25 gift cards plus a game with something ‘Disney’ from JCPenney and a $50 gift card from Brickhouse Collectibles,” the SF/FBA press release stated.
Still more Costume Contest prizes include “a $100 shopper card from COSTCO, two $25 gift cards from Sir Goony’s Family Fun Center, two $50 Game Play discount cards from Topgolf and a $50 gift card from Ricki’s Pet Depot,” the release further stated.
“We’ll have a tent where they can sign up and get a number,” Krempasky said about contestants.
Judges are Town Mayor Ron Williams, Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce president/CEO Julie Blaylock and Kim Frazier, At-Large Seat 11 County Commissioner.
Music
As for music, featuring what Krempasky said was “very danceable music entertainment,” Mighty Blue (2 to 3:30 p.m.) “is mainly blues, but also plays the American Songbook, classic tunes,” he added.
Hardin Valley-based Soltice, which will begin playing at 4:30 p.m., “is an original rock band,” Krempasky said.
“Each one will play about 90 minutes.”
Large Festival tent
“Shop Farragut will supply a large Festival tent providing patrons with seating to enjoy the music with their food and drinks,” Krempasky said.
A new fall tradition
As for staying power, “The Festival is becoming a new fall tradition for our community,” the Shop Farragut executive director said.
“It now fills a calendar gap in Shop Farragut’s exciting annual line-up of community events and retail activities,” he added.
Parking/top sponsor
“They’ll be plenty of parking at the Village Green shopping center — but (patrons) also can use parking behind that at the (Farragut) Community Center, which is off Jamestowne Boulevard,” Krempasky said.
Presenting sponsor is First Bank.
Severe weather
If it rains, Krempasky reminds potential attendees, “Most of the vendors are under tents.” In case of lightning, festivities will be halted — but an attempt will be made to resume HarvestFest if there are no area lightning strikes for at least a 30-minute period, Krempasky said.
