First in Knox County

The Designery to open retail showroom Nov. 18

KNOXVILLE — Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce is welcoming a new member, The Designery, 10420 Kingston Pike, Suite B, in Lovell Heights shopping center, when it sponsors a ribbon cutting and grand opening from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 18, at The Designery Knoxville.

“I’m excited about it,” John Andrew Dukes, TDK franchise owner, said about opening the showroom. “It’s a whole new venture for me, and I’m eager to see where this goes.”

In addition to the ribbon cutting, the grand opening will feature radio station coverage, food and raffles.

Dukes is the first franchisee for The Designery and his is the first location in Knoxville — although, there are two other locations: Calhoun, Georgia, and Cleveland (Bradley County).

While the business itself is operational — “we’ve been putting in a lot of leg work, reached out to multiple contractors in Knoxville and the Greater Knoxville area,” he said, adding the showroom itself will open Nov. 18.

“That will open the doors to the residential side (of the business).”

The Designery designs and installs cabinetry, tile, countertops, flooring and more for kitchens, baths and closets.

“We have a complete design center, where customers can pick out a door — style, color, stain, countertop, flooring and tile — and they can all see it on a proprietary cabinet,” Dukes said. “They can select their hardware, put it on the door or drawer front they like and then we’ll have the ability to put it up on the screen and give a 3-D virtual tour of the potential kitchen.”

“Customers want to come in, lay their hands on and see it,” he added. “That’s what we’re offering here. It sets us aside, a little bit, from competitors.”

Regarding the cabinetry, Dukes said his company offers full plywood cabinet boxes, full overlay, hardwood fronts and soft-close hinges. “Nothing is pressed wood, like glued particle board,” he added.

However, “the cabinetry aspect of it isn’t just the kitchens or baths,” designer Rachel Ann Horn said. “That includes built-ins around entertainment centers. That includes bars you want to have in your home.”

“One of things we like to offer is a 48-hour turnaround,” Dukes said.

“So, you would be able to come back into our showroom and have your entire presentation 48 hours after providing your project measure for us or us going out there and taking the measure ourselves,” Horn added.

The showroom will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, by appointments only on Saturdays and closed Sundays.

Customers can walk into the showroom, make appointments on its website at thedesignery.com or call 865-770-3331 and make appointments.
