‘Groundbreaking Geniuses’ is BSTT’s Town Black History program Feb. 26
Bright Star Touring Theater is returning to Farragut Sunday, Feb. 26, to help celebrate Black History Month with a performance of “Groundbreaking Geniuses.”
A reception will be held at 1:30 p.m. and the show will follow at 2 p.m.
According to a Town press release, the free show focuses on the brilliance of more than a dozen “amazing” characters throughout history.
“Black History’s Groundbreaking Geniuses is our newest show, and we’re excited to bring it to Farragut,” stated Josh Batenhorst, CEO of Bright Star Touring Theatre, in an e-mail.
Lauren Ainsworth and Ryan Pendleton are the stars of “Groundbreaking Geniuses.”
“The program is about … people who have made change in our world by breaking new ground and doing something new or different for the first time,” Ainsworth stated in an e-mail. “From Dorothy Vaughn, who was a NASA mathematician and an amazing human computer, all the way to Lonnie Johnson, who was the inventor of the super soaker water gun, you can learn all about these amazing people and more from Black History.
“I am very thankful to be a part of this production because I think it’s very important to honor and acknowledge these groundbreakers who you may have missed out on learning in schools,” she added.
The duo has been extremely busy, she said, noting, “In the month of February we will have performed 31 times” in nine states.
“Bright Star has been in business for 20 years,” Batenhorst said. “We provide school assembly programs, workshops, summer camps and tons and tons of shows.”
Batenhorst agreed it is a busy time for the different touring companies.
“We currently have eight tours on the road, with a ninth going out at the end of this month and a 10th the first of March,” she said.
