• As part of the Town of Farragut’s Arbor Day celebration, Farragut Stormwater Matters will host a plant giveaway Saturday, March 4. Six varieties of shrubs and trees are available this year in addition to an herbaceous plant seed mix, but quantities are limited and plants must be ordered ahead of time at townoffarragut.org/plantgiveaway. Deadline for ordering is 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25.
Available plants are Virginia Christmas pine, silky dogwood, elderberry, water tupelo, yellow poplar, overcup oak and a riparian buffer seed mix consisting of native grasses and wildflowers.
Plants will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to noon, March 4, at McFee Park Great Lawn Pavilion, 917 McFee Road. UT Forestry Department, Town staff and members of
Farragut’s Tree Board will be available to answer questions about urban trees, stormwater, water pollution and related topics.
Town of Farragut is celebrating Arbor Day as part of an effort to receive Tree City USA designation. Festivities include a joint program and tree planting with the Tennessee Division of Forestry at Farragut Intermediate School, an essay contest for FIS third graders, a proclamation declaring Friday, March 3, to be Arbor Day in the Town of Farragut and the Farragut Stormwater Matters plant giveaway.
