Nation’s top 10 at HVA

Ranked in the top 10 nationwide, Hardin Valley Academy indoor percussion ensemble — a 29-member group that competes nationally every year — is readying for a regional event Saturday, March 4, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where it will represent Knox County. Organizers are renting a chartered bus at a cost of $2,300. To help cover the cost, visit hvaband.org where a donate button is listed. Performing at a previous event are bass drum players, from left, Eva Rolfe, Cristina Goethert, Cadence Hayes, Landon Gibbs and Will Saylor.

The group is fresh off of a local competition held this past Saturday, Feb. 18, at Knoxville West High School where it scored 77.20, putting it in the top 10 in the nation, Angie Goethert said.
