Building on rivalry win, Dawgs crush Central
KNOXVILLE — Getting over the “Farragut hump” and beating the Admirals for the first time this season, 57-47, in the District 4-4A tourney consolation game at FHS, perhaps propelled the Bearden Bulldogs into pulling off a huge and dominant Region 2-4A road victory.
While the three-point shooting of freshman Justin Nordin, the penetration scoring of sophomore guard King Hubbard and the inside presence of physical senior post Tyson Pirtle combined to lead their team past the Ads, that BHS success carried over, big time. Saturday, Feb. 25.
Traveling to Knoxville Central in the must-win quarterfinal round, Bearden rolled past the District 3-4A tourney runner-up Bobcats 75-49.
Improving to 20-12 overall after being seeded No. 5 going into the district tourney, Bearden faced a much bigger seasonal nemesis in state-ranked and league/tournament 4-4A champ William Blount at WBHS Tuesday night, Feb. 28 (after deadline). The Dawgs entered the must-win region semifinal 0-3 versus the Govs this season.
