• For three years my unpaid job was to help each day with after-school pickup. Schools are so crowded that 45 minutes must be allocated to middle, intermediate and high school. Forget the energy to make it to the primary. Not once has anybody proposed new schools for all the multi-family houses built — but putting senior housing up with no further drain on school class size is a problem? They would put tax money in coffers for new schools. Two plus two equals four. This is not hard to understand.

Editor’s Note: Knox County Schools, assisted by 5th District rep. Susan Horn, are planning for a new elementary school, supposedly in Farragut.

One site, along McFee Road, seemed close to reality at one time but has since been reconsidered.

• I’ve been married 57 years — then my husband decided to divorce me. I live in Farragut and I want to stay here, but I am 77 years old. And I’m very disappointed in reading “Senior living shot down 3-2 (lawsuit next?” on page 1A of farragutpress’ March 15 issue).

For those who shot it down, there are senior citizens like me who want to stay in Farragut and who have been here for years. We need to have a senior citizen place.

I would love to have gone into the senior living in Farragut here, but if it’s shot down, of course, I can’t do that. So I ask (Farragut Board of Mayor and Aldermen) to overturn that ruling to have senior citizen housing. We senior citizens voluntarily help a lot (inaudible) as well as Farragut helping senior citizens. Please (reverse your ruling) because I’m at a loss: my doctor is here, my dentist, everybody. To shoot down senior living is just wrong.

Editor’s Note: a number of opponents of re-zoning, which would have allowed for the Harmony at Farragut senior living facility to be built behind Ingles (voted down 3-2 by BOMA), say there are plenty of senior living options, with space available, in and near Farragut.

However, a number of pro-rezoning/pro Harmony advocates of this parcel have said seniors are on waiting lists to enter local senior living facilities.
