Hot start — home win vs. Bearden — but cool finish to the week for FHS softball
A promising start to the two-time defending state champion Farragut softball team’s week — pulling away late for a 9-2 District 4-4A win against rival Bearden at FHS’s Bellamy Field Tuesday evening, March 21 — turned a bit sour after three mid- and late-week setbacks left an 8-3 overall record starting this week.
Against the Lady Bulldogs, sophomore catcher Elsa Morrison homered, doubled and singled with three RBI; senior shortstop Ava Guzowski blasted a two-run homer and singled; junior Laney Shrader connected for two doubles and an RBI; lead-off hitter Addison Pressley, a junior, added a double, a single, a sacrifice fly and scored a run; Audrey Ginel and Amelia Dorset each singled; Anna French and Caylee George each scored a run.
Winning pitcher Emma MacTavish, junior staff ace, allowed two earned runs, four hits — none after the third inning — one walk and one hit batter with six strikeouts.
For Bearden, Jaycie Overton doubled and singled, with one RBI; Riley Sieber had a triple and a run scored; Lauren Spainhower singled and scored a run.
