Fugitive, ex-Maryland chief of staff, killed in Gold’s Gym p-lot
The former chief of staff to ex-Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, who was a fugitive from Baltimore, was shot to death as FBI agents responded just outside of Farragut around 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 3, according to reports.
The shooting occurred in Gold’s Gym parking lot, 10708 Kingston Pike, after the FBI and other law enforcement officials attempted to take Roy McGrath, 53, into custody.
Indicted in October 2021 — and facing a maximum of 100 years in federal prison — McGrath was charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from Maryland state government and illegally recording Hogan, reports stated.
No one else, including FBI agents, was injured, according to reports.
McGrath was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center, but was confirmed to have died by Joseph Murtha, McGrath’s wife’s attorney, reports stated.
