KNOXVILLE — Two big innings of offense by Farragut and six quality innings of pitching from junior staff ace Emma MacTavish combined to give the Lady Ads softballers a regular season sweep of rival Bearden.
Surviving a rough sixth inning — giving up three earned runs — MacTavish recorded the complete game win (three earned runs, four hits, six strikeouts) with a three-up, three-down seventh to beat the Lady Bulldogs 6-3 Thursday evening, April 6, at BHS’s Kim Hazelwood Field.
Back-to-back RBI doubles from Elsa Morrison and Laney Shrader, along with an RBI single from Sophia Leto and a single from Addison Pressley, highlighted a three-run third inning for FHS, which entered the week 15-3 overall, 5-1 in District 4-4A.
Anna French, who reached on a fielder’s choice, scored Farragut’s fourth run in the fifth inning after an error.
Pressley’s leadoff double and Morrison’s one-out home run over the left field fence added two more runs in the Lady Ads sixth inning.
Bearden, 0-6 in 4-4A starting this week, began the bottom of the sixth with singles from Lauren Spainhower and Reese Waltman, plus a walk to Rylee Sieber.
A sac fly from Jaycie Overton put the Lady Dawgs on the board, while a second run scored on a groundout by Allie Seritt. An RBI single by Abby Thompson cut the lead to 6-3.
For the game, MacTavish allowed three earned runs and four hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
