Top 3 state finish for FHS Engineering Club
Ten members of Farragut High School’s Engineering Club have qualified for nationals after placing in the top three during state competition.
The stellar showing occurred during the club’s first attendance at the Technology Student Association State Leadership Conference in eight years, held this year from Wednesday, March 29, through Saturday, April 1, in Chattanooga.
Winning top awards were Benji Cho and Boyu Tan, who won first place in Data Science & Analytics; Sophia Havrylyak, Fiona He and Peggy Feng, who won first place in Engineering Design; Iris Ye, Jesse Hao, Madeline Gao and Toby Mitchell, who won third place in Architectural Design; Iris Ye, Madeline Gao and Joanna Gao, who won third place in Children’s Stories; and Iris Ye and Jesse Hao, who won third place in Digital Video Production.
Ye, who also serves as president of the club, said 19 members attended the conference, and related fees and costs were offset by a donation from the FHS Education Foundation.
“I (wanted to) share our success with the Farragut community and our gratitude to the FHS Education Foundation for helping us financially with our trip to Chattanooga,” Ye said.
“From this experience, we learned so much and are incredibly thankful to the FHS Education Foundation for investing in us,” she added. “They paid for the competition registration fees and part of the transportation costs.
“This was a huge accomplishment for us!”
The finalists will compete in the TSA Nationals June 28 to July 1, in Louisville, Kentucky.
