Riverdog Bakery coming to Town
The Hawks, who live in the Choto area, said they are hoping to open June 9 or June 15.
“That’s when we’ll have a soft opening,” Chris said. “Then we’ll have a grand opening sometime two or three weeks later.”
“We’re really excited, a little nervous,” Sonja said. “Our kids are really excited.”
The store carries assorted fresh-baked treats: soft, crunchy, individual, bulk and seasonal. It also carries birthday cakes — all for dogs.
“Birthday cakes are a really big deal,” said Pam Trainor, co-owner of the original Riverdog Bakery in Bearden with husband, Brian.
Riverdog Bakery Farragut also has leashes, collars, toys, grooming and outdoor supplies for the lake, such as life jackets and floatie toys.
The Farragut location is the second Riverdog Bakery store in Knox County, with the original located at 5201 Kingston Pike in old Bearden, owned by the Trainors.
“We opened that (Bearden store) in 2005,” Brian said. ”We’re coming up on 18 years in November.”
Looking back, “we had been to other cities that had stores like that for dogs,” he said. “We thought the Knoxville market would support it. Here we are almost 18 years later.”
Additionally, Pam said, “We had a dog that had allergies, and we always made treats for him. It just seemed like a natural fit.”
“We kind of created our original recipe (for treats),” Brian said. “We simplified the ingredients.”
“We franchised (the Farragut location) to Chris and Sonja,” he added. “This is their store, and we’re just overseeing the brand.
“We’re going to continue to make the treats in our (Bearden) store.”
Like the Trainors, the Hawks were inspired by their pet, as they shopped at the Bearden store for treats and later decided to open a Riverdog Bakery in Farragut.
The Farragut store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday; and closed Sunday and Monday.
Besides walking in the store, customers can order online at riverdogbakeryfarragut.com
