This year’s Michael David Greene Award Scholarship, valued at $4,000 for Farragut High School graduating senior honorees from the FHS Marching Admirals band, was presented by Michael’s parents, David and Janet Greene, pictured above with this year’s recipients Natalie Osorio, left, and Ella Pinchok, during the band banquet late last semester. The award was further commemorated by the Greenes during FHS’s Senior Awards program. “These students were awarded the scholarship for their real and fervent effort, kindness, courage, determination and dignity,” Janet Greene stated in a press release. Fifty-eight FHS seniors have been awarded the scholarship, which was established in 1995 in memory of the Greene’s son, Michael David Greene, who played trumpet in the band. He died of a brain tumor at age 16 in 1994.
Osorio, who played clarinet in the FHS marching band and symphonic band, was awarded a place in the Tennessee All-East Band. She plans to attend University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and major in accounting. Pinchok played flute and piccolo in the marching band and symphonic band, played percussion in the FHS Percussion Ensemble and was one of four drum majors for the Marching Admirals last year. She also was awarded a place in the Tennessee All-East Band and plans to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she will major in music education. Ella also earned one of two departmental awards for band during Senior Awards.
