FHS’s Davis new FMPC student rep
Farragut Municipal Planning Commission welcomes its new youth representative, Farragut High School rising senior Leo Davis to the Commission for 2024 Fiscal Year.
FMPC appointed Davis during its meeting Thursday, June 15.
“I was first introduced to the youth representative positions for the different Farragut Town committees by one of my teachers last year who encouraged me to apply,” said Davis, son of Patrick and Christy Davis. “After carefully searching through all of the committees, I decided to only apply to the Planning Commission last year, since it dealt the heaviest with local politics, which is what I was interested in.
“After being rejected, I applied again this year to both the Planning Commission and the (Museum Committee) as a second choice since I have always been fascinated by history ...,” he said.
At FHS, Davis is a member of Junior State of America, for which he has served as co-president of the chapter at FHS and director of debate on the regional level.
He also is going into his fourth year as a Student Government Association representative; has been heavily involved in the Mock Trial and leadership for the past two years; is a member of Spanish Honor Society; and was engaged in community service with the National Honor Society.
About writing a letter of recommendation for Davis, his history teacher and the Social Studies Department chair Angela Breeding stated, “Leo is truly one of the most exceptional students I have had the pleasure of teaching during my 26 years as an educator. He is bright, articulate and ... is a well-informed man who thinks for himself.”
“Leo was a student in both my (Advanced Placement) Seminar and AP Capstone program, a rigorous two-course diploma program, which requires college level research, both individual and team.” she furtherstated. “In this program, students investigate real-world issues and finalize the research with professional presentations.
“His experience will make him an asset to the Town of Farragut committee.I could write a book praising Leo.”
