Town’s Gary is Freedom Run overall 2-Mile champ
Annual Farragut Freedom Run 1- and 2-mile races held on Independence Day morning, Tuesday, July 4, had its largest turnout ever according to organizers.
Hosted by Fleet Feet Knoxville and Brooks, the races “went really well” and had “451 runners registered for the race,” said volunteer Eva Freer, who oversaw the events in the stead of Fleet Feet owners Shahin and Cheryl Hadian. “This was 22 percent more than last year.”
The race kicked off near Town Hall on South Campbell Station Road and concluded in the parking lot of Farragut Towne Square, Kingston Pike.
Farragut resident Mary Alex Gary was the first 2-mile runner to cross the finish line (11:51), giving her the Female Open win as well.
Following the races, Fleet Feet made a $5,000 donation to Smoky Mountain Service Dogs from race proceeds.
