Northshore jogger stumbles upon murder victim
A body found by a jogger early Sunday, July 30, along South Northshore Drive has been identified and classified as a murder victim, according to Knox County Sherriff’s Office communications director Kimberly Glenn.
Alma Delia Matias, 24, of Knoxville was identified as the victim, but no manner of death has been disclosed. Glenn further stated in a press release that while the investigation is ongoing, two unnamed individuals have been arrested for arson and felony theft in relation to the case.
Matias’s body was discovered around 8:30 a.m. near the Concord Road/Northshore Drive roundabout. The jogger contacted 911, and KCSO deputies and major crimes detectives were dispatched to the scene, during which time the roadway was closed off to traffic and rerouted.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and the community,” Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler stated. “This was an isolated crime, yet tragic for all involved. I want to extend my gratitude to our detectives working around the clock.”
No further information was available at deadline noon, Tuesday, Aug. 1.
