Holder’s ‘16th’ a ‘Squeeze’
Holder certainly utilized his vast knowledge and experience when he wrote and recently published his 16th book, “Feeling the Squeeze: Success Through Adversity” (available on Amazon) which addresses how best to deal with troubling circumstances.
“Adversity runs the gamut from mildly irritating to crushing,” said the author, who lives in the Westland Drive area of West Knox County with his wife, and Farragut High School alumnae, Jill Holder. “It destroys some people, while others become more resilient. Strangely, almost paradoxically, it can often be a blessing.
“If we do it right, we can usually grow from the experience,” he added. “If we handle it poorly, then that can usher us down a dark path.”
Holder outlines how best to handle present-day situations, drawing on Presidents George Washington, James Monroe, Abraham Lincoln and James Madison as examples.
For instance, a failed military career propelled Madison into college and politics as “The Father of the Constitution,” a story Holder recounts.
He brings in psychological and faith-based advice, crediting Drs. Whitey Jarnagin and K. Paul Nesselroade Jr. with contributions.
Holder also is quick to bring in the need for humor and old-fashioned perseverance in combatting adversity.
Having preached in churches of four denominations and across six states, Holder has written books that include “Devotions for a New Day” (co-authored by Jill); “Presidential Stories;” “Presidential Trivia;” “Devotions with Presidents;” and a children’s book, “Washington was a Dancer, Lincoln was a Wrestler.”
He has taught students in-person or online for colleges and universities in five states, and was a dean at Walters State Community College.
Holder currently teaches part-time at Liberty University, Walters State and River’s Edge Christian Academy.
Additionally, he and his wife, Jill, work together on acting projects that include commercials and faith-based productions.
“Feeling the Squeeze” is, as are several of Holder’s other books.
