Hardin Valley Academy’s Spirit of the Valley Band kicked off the season with its annual band camp on school grounds from Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 28.
“The students are doing an awesome job so far and worked very hard the last few weeks despite the hottest days of the year so far near the end of camp,” HVA band director Alex Rector said. “I am very proud of them.”
They ended their camp with a performance for their families Friday, July 28.
The marching band currently has nearly 120 students this fall — about 30 in each class. Its drum majors are seniors Channing Clarke and Sterling Ross, and juniors Josie Wade and Erika Walker.
“Our 2023 program is titled, ‘The Wonder of Infinity,’” Rector said. “We will be hosting a contest on Oct. 7, as well as traveling to Karns on Sept. 30 and attending two Bands of America regional championship competitions — one at UTC on Sept. 23 and another at ETSU on Oct. 21.”
Additionally, the band will be marching in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando during the last week of November.
