5th-Grade ‘Baby Ads’ hold on, win vs. Central
With lots of impressive plays in the game’s first three quarters, Farragut’s Fifth-Grade YAC “Baby Admirals” hung tough late in the game against a determined Knoxville Central team in Farragut High School’s Eddie Courtney Stadium/Bill Clabo Field Saturday afternoon, Aug. 19.
The end result was a 25-20 Baby Admirals victory during its season-opening game.
Quarterback Max Glover’s 32-yard touchdown pass to wide-open receiver Andrew Floyd put Farragut ahead 6-0 midway into the opening quarter.
Tied 6-6, Skylar Yager’s interception late in the first quarter set up a 60-yard go-ahead scoring drive for the home team.
An 11-yard run by Da’Vaughn Jackson came before Max’s 35-yard pass to Skylar, placing the Baby Ads at the Central 6.
Two runs by Mason Alley, the final from 1 yard out, put Farragut back ahead 12-6 with 3:25 left in the first half. Max’s 1-point conversion run made it 13-6.
A quick Baby Bobcats score tied the game once again, but the Baby Admirals answered with yet another big TD pass — this one 68 yards from Max to Skylar with 53 seconds left in the first half, making it 19-13.
Farragut wasn’t through scoring in the second quarter, as the Blue and Gray defense would add six points: lineman Solomon Hughes recovered a fumble and scampered 15 yards for the touchdown.
It was 25-13 at halftime.
The Baby Ads’ defense held up well most of the second half, but an 89-yard Central run cut the lead to 25-20 with 1:05 to play.
Though Farragut’s Hunter Jenkins recovered the onside kick, the visitors pounced on a fumble — but fumbled it right back to the Baby Ads on the same play.
