Solid 3-1 week for Farragut volleyballers
Last week was a good one for Farragut High School’s volleyball team, as the Lady Admirals won three of four matches to begin this week with an overall record at 6-5, 1-0 in District 4-AAA. All three wins came with relative ease.
Thursday, Aug. 24, at home, FHS opened District 4-3A play against Lenoir City and wrapped up the week with a straight-set win 25-10, 25-16, and 25-17.
“The girls played really well tonight,” assistant coach Jessica Amori said. “They won it fast. They played like the team I knew they can be tonight.”
“Good team win tonight,” junior outside hitter Elsa Morrison said. “Everybody came together well. It’s good to sweep a team, but we also need to focus on the next game and try to get better.”
The first set stayed relatively close until Farragut led 10-8. The Lady Admirals then won 11 of the next 12 points, and four of the final five to close it out, 25-10. Half of the Lady Panthers’ 10 points came from errant serves by Farragut.
FHS used scoring runs in the second set to lead 16-6. The teams then traded points to the 25-16 final score.
Lady Admirals scoring runs were again the rule in the final set. Down 3-2, four straight points made it 6-3, FHS. Another run of four straight, followed shortly after by a run of six made it 19-8. It ended 25-17.
Loryn Neeley led Farragut in kills with nine. High in assists was Tori McNair with 22. Morrison had nine digs for Farragut while Paisy White added a pair of blocks.
“Our passing was spot on today … everything was just way cleaner today,” Amori said. “We just need to continue to play our game, which is what they need to do every match.”
Monday, Aug. 21, FHS swept Pigeon Forge at home 25-9 and 25-22. Neeley had 12 kills, while McNair again led in assists with 21.
Morrison had eight digs and four aces, while Maggie Hughes had a pair of blocks.
At South-Doyle Tuesday, Aug. 22, the Lady Admirals won all three sets — 25-16, 25-6, and 25-9. White had 17 kills and three blocks, while McNair’s 30 assists were high. Teagen Williams led with 17 digs.
On Wednesday, Aug. 23, FHS lost to defending Division I-AAA state champion Cleveland on the road 25-6, 25-10 and 25-21. Anniston Kennedy had three digs.
