Corner-kick goal enough for Lady Ads vs. Hardin Valley in 1-0 district victory

All it took was one goal for Farragut’s girls, following a nice corner kick by senior Kennedy Renfro, as Lady Ads senior forward Reeder Kappel controlled a slight deflection to boot home a goal from about 12 yards out in the 47th minute.

A 1-0 home win against rival Hardin Valley Academy Thursday evening, Sept. 21, improved the FHS record to 7-3-1, 2-1-1 in District 4-AA

“Obviously, this game means something to everyone,” said new FHS head coach Jessie Burkhart, the former Hardin Valley head coach. “I think it’s a game both teams had circled on their calendar.”

While praising HVA’s “hustle,” Burkhart added her Lady Ads “came out in the second half and looked like the team with the step we should have. ... We definitely came out with some intensity and some heart.”

About the goal, “Reeder is always dangerous in front of the goal,” the Lady Ads skipper said. “... We executed a corner kick like you should.”

For a “very young” Lady Hawks team that has “started seven freshman” at points this season and stood at 2-8 after the loss, “I was happy with the effort,” head coach Masey Fox said. Having worked “on expanding quickly and possessing effectively, there was improvement there. ... We’ve got to finish the chances that we get.”

With two diving saves against Farragut, Lady Hawks sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Lambert “has been saving us a lot,” Fox said.

Sophia Roberts, sophomore midfielder-forward, “had a couple of good shots-on-goal in the first half,” her coach added.

Versatile HVA freshman Anna Ogle “is very good at defending and very good at joining the attack. An all-around good athlete,” Fox said.

Senior center-fullback Abigail Davis ”is performing well,” the coach said.
