Fit Body Boot Camp to open soon
“It’s a family thing,” Don said about the business, which the Mathers are hoping to open Saturday, Nov. 11, but want to make sure everything passes the Town’s final inspection.
“Our daughter, Nena, is doing this with us,” Debra added.
“We offer 30-minute high-intensity interval training in a group session,” said Don, who added the exercises are both aerobic and progressive resistance with weights.
“We run each session with two coaches, he said, and explained one coach is on the mic, running the sessions, telling people when it is time to work, when it is time to rest and when it’s time to change stations for a different exercise.
“They’re keeping the pace and tempo of the session going,” Don added.
Meanwhile, he said the second coach — the on-the-floor coach — is working with each individual client, or member, “helping to make sure they are doing the exercises with the proper form and in such a way they are getting the most out of it … and also doing it in a manner that is safe.
“Everybody who comes in is at a different fitness level,” Don added.
“In those cases, we would modify the exercises so it is possible for the person to be able to do it and continue exercising, but do it in a way that doesn’t hurt themselves — but also it meets them where they’re at fitnesswise and helps them to improve.”
“That’s what this (business) is about,” Debra said. “It’s about helping people connect to whatever it is inside of them that will help them feel like they can do it, help them feel supported, help them feel they can talk to us about anything and we can help them with it.
“Nutrition is part of our program,” she added. “Just anyway we can help.”
Along with Don, Fit Body Boot Camp has four coaches.
Fitness is not new to him, as he has been working out for 45 years.
“I’ve helped people with their workouts in the past because I’ve been working out myself,” he said.
“He also was a competitive body builder back in the ’80s,” Debra added. “He’s been involved in fitness his own life.”
She also has worked out and walked to keep fit.
After retiring two years ago, the Mathers decided to open Farragut Fit Body Boot Camp with their children’s futures in mind.
However, “We just didn’t want to sit around and do nothing for our retirement,” Debra said.
“I worked for Lazy Boy for 47 years, and my dad worked for them, too,” Don said.
“After seeing people get really sick during COVID because of existing conditions, and I spent my career helping people sit on their rear ends and making them that way, I figured it was time to get them off their rear ends, get them healthy and help them live a healthy life,” the business co-owner added.
“We’ve been working on getting this building for a year,” Debra said.
Once open, the Mathers will have a special: 28 days for $28.
The facility will have sessions starting at 5:30 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday; and starting at 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., Saturday.
