FMS boys win
HALLS — In-school games always present a unique challenge for middle school basketball teams — particularly those squads playing in hostile territory. That was no exception for Farragut, which played its traditional annual in-school showdown at Halls Thursday, Nov. 30.
The Admirals battled some offensive struggles, but their defense was stiff early as they jumped out to a big lead before hanging on for a 37-28 victory against the host Red Devils before a capacity crowd comprised largely of HMS students.
Colton Liner scored 10 points to lead Farragut. Brooks Johnston added nine and Kyle Clark finished with six.
“In-school games are a totally different beast,” Farragut head coach Lynn Allen said. “The atmosphere is completely different.”
Halls closed a nine-point deficit to 30-27 when Kegan Wayland knocked down back-to-back shots, a 3-pointer then a short jumper with 1 :23 left in the game. “We struggled down the stretch and it wasn’t really anything they were doing,” Allen said. “It was what we were doing.”
The Admirals, however, would recover and close the game out with a flourish as they outscored Halls 7-1 over the final minute.
Kegan led all scorers with 15 points.
