Defensive struggle goes to Lady Rams in visit to Farragut Middle
Farragut Middle School’s girls basketball team had its Eighth-Grade Night spoiled by Robertsville in a non-league game.
“We came out and played well offensively. We hit shots,” FMS head coach Devan McIntyre said after her team let a lead get away in a 27-24 loss to the Lady Rams Thursday, Jan. 4, in Farragut’s Bobby J. Henry Gymnasium. “... I told the girls after the first quarter that our defense wasn’t good enough, and I knew that it would eventually catch up with us.”
After opening a 16-11 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Lady Ads were able to maintain the upper hand, despite having trouble scoring, until the fourth quarter. Robertsville opened the final frame by scoring six consecutive points for a 25-19 lead.
The Lady Admirals had one last gasp, as Makena Hartley single-handedly put them back within striking distance, making consecutive baskets and a free throw to pull Farragut to within 25-24 with 22.2 seconds to go. The Lady Rams, however, closed out their victory with a pair with foul shots.
Livi Slagle led Farragut with 10 points, all in the first quarter. Makena added eight.
