HVA boys fall vs MHS
HARDIN VALLEY — An axiom in sports is: don’t dig a hole early. Thursday night, Jan. 4, at home against Maryville, Hardin Valley Academy’s boys’ basketball team violated that rule, and had to spend the rest of the game trying to overcome it.
The Hawks fought back valiantly, but the result was a 63-52 Red Rebels victory. The Hawks entered this week 11-6, 0-1 in District 4-4A.
Missing post Will Fellers due to injury, HVA trailed 30-13 with 5:11 left in the first half. But a Tommy Joseph lay-up with 5:04 left in the game cut the Maryville lead to four, 50-46. It got no closer.
Barron Sheetz scored 16 to lead the Hawks. Bryson Frey added 14. “Sheetz played really hard,” HVA head coach Andy Arendt said. “Tommy Joseph did a phenomenal job defensively. Bryson Frey was phenomenal.”
Alex Akard, MHS 6-foot-9 post, scored a game-high 18.
